Luminosity have earned a spot at the WCA main event after topping the North American Finals with a 2-1 victory over CLG in the final.
Eight teams - four invited and four qualified - competed in a single-elimination bracket over the weekend for the chance to earn the grand prize of over $11,000 and to represent the region at the WCA World Finals, later this year.
The first round of matches went exactly as expected as all favourites managed to win their matches without dropping a single map. The semi-finals threw up two mouth-watering fixtures, with Ethan "Ethan" Arnold inspiring CLG to beat Misfits on two close maps with a 1.56 Rating and a 110.3 ADR, while Gustavo "SHOOWTiME" Gonçalves and Marcelo "chelo" Cespedes shined as Luminosity moved past Complexity in a two-map series.
chelo put up another great display in the first game of the final, boasting a 2.28 Rating as he powered Luminosity to cruise to a 16-3 victory on Cache. CLG responded in similar fashion, picking up a comprehensive 16-4 victory on Cobblestone with a strong all-round performance, but the Brazilians were far too strong on Overpass and wrapped things up with a quick 16-7 success.
